Forbidden Caverns

Tennessee boast more than 8,350 caves registered to date and your cabin vacation in the Smokies wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Forbidden Caverns. Situated in Sevierville, Tennessee, Forbidden Caverns is one of the country’s most spectacular caverns. The caverns maintain a comfortable 58 degree temperature year round and you can enjoy a safe well lighted tour of this fabulous East Tennessee attraction.

Knowledgeable guides will lead you on a lengthy entertaining and educational tour through the cave. Along the way you will encounter beautiful formations, tall natural chimneys, crystal clear streams and numerous grottos. Informative stereophonic sound presentations and special lighting effects will add to your experience throughout the tour making it a most enjoyable event.

The Eastern Woodland Indians who roamed the plush forest of the East Tennessee mountains hundreds of years ago knew Forbidden Caverns as a winter shelter and continuous water supply from the cave river. From the early twenties to 1943, moonshiners utilized the caverns secret environment and constant water supply for their whiskey manufacturing operations. In 1967 after three years of excavation and development Forbidden Caverns was opened to the public for exploration of the natural attraction.

Forbidden Caverns is open April through November Monday through Saturday 10 AM to 6PM and is conveniently located at 455 Blowing Cave Rd Sevierville, Tennessee. The attraction is only minutes from Cosby Cabins, Gatlinburg cabins, Pigeon Forge cabins, and the cities of Newport and Knoxville. The drive to the caverns travels through a picturesque valley with beautiful views of the Smoky Mountains including the majestic LeConte range and English Mountain. Historic farm houses, a grist mill-museum and a trout farm are a few of the many points of interest along the way.

The average length for the guided tour through the caverns is about 55 minutes making it a great attraction to include in your cabin vacation plans. Other features of Forbidden Caverns include FREE parking for cars and buses, a picnic pavilion, a souvenir shop and refreshments are available on the premises.
