The wedding laws in the State of Tennessee are simple, straightforward and obtaining your marriage license is very affordable. There is no waiting period and blood tests are not required. You can get married the same day your license is issued. You can obtain your marriage license up to 30 days prior to your wedding ceremony. The license is valid for 30 days.

Both parties must be present to obtain a license. The bride and groom may obtain their marriage license at any courthouse in Tennessee. This includes Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Pigeon Forge, TN in Sevier County. For non-residents of Tennessee you can obtain a license from Sevier County for $38.50. If you obtain your license elsewhere in Tennessee the cost is $98.50. For residents of Tennessee the cost for a license is $98.50 or $38.50 if you present a certificate of completion from a premarital preparation course.

The law requires both the bride and groom to be 18 years of age or over. If anyone is under the age of 18 they should contact an office listed below to obtain the requirements for minors. Both the bride and groom will need either a birth certificate or a valid driver’s license. You will also need your Social Security card if your Social Security number is not shown on your driver's license. A valid passport must be presented if you are not a United States citizen.

If you have been married before you will need the month and year of your divorce, or the date of your deceased spouse's death. If the bride has had a name change through a previous divorce and her name on her driver’s license has not been changed then she must provide a certified copy of her divorce decree.
